Rippavilla tour guide receives TN Historical Commission award

Rippavilla employee chosen for state award

The City of Spring Hill is proud to announce Tyler Green, a tour guide for the Rippavilla mansion and battlefield,is this year’s recipient of the Tennessee Historical Commission’s Certificate of Merit.

The Tennessee Historical Commission Awards Program began in 1975. Certificates of Merit are presented annually to individuals, groups, agencies or organizations that have made significant contributions to the study and preservation of Tennessee’s heritage during the 12 months prior to the application deadline.

Tyler Green curated the World War I Exhibit at Rippavilla Plantation – “Come With Me, Boys,” commemorating 100 Years since the end of “The War to End All Wars.” The exhibit honored 1st Lt. Walter S. Yarbrough (1895-1918) and soldiers from Maury County and Tennessee.

Corrine Tomlinson, chairman of Rippavilla Inc., nominated Mr. Green for the award for his outstanding work on the exhibit. Along with Mrs. Tomlinson’s nomination letter and application were letters of recommendation from City of Spring Hill Economic Development Coordinator Kayce Williams, Maury County Commissioner and School Teacher Gwynne Evans, and General Motors Facility Area Manager Mike Rayburn.

“I have visited the Winston Churchill Museum in London and, after my tour of the Yarbrough Exhibit, I remarked that Tyler’s exhibit was every bit as good as any room in the Churchill Museum,” Mr. Rayburn said.

Tyler Green, a Spring Hill High School graduate, is currently an engineering student at Tennessee Tech University.
