On Friday, June 28, 2024, the City of Spring Hill proudly hosted family members of the late Command Sergeant Major Cristobal Melendez. Near the corner of Reserve Boulevard and Kedron Road, a new sign was unveiled, honorarily renaming Reserve Boulevard to "Command Sergeant Major Cristobal Melendez Parkway."
Melendez was a Congressional Gold Medal recipient — the highest civilian honor Congress can bestow. The award is given by Congress to persons “who have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture that is likely to be recognized as a major achievement in the recipient's field long after the achievement.”
Melendez served 30 years in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
Melendez was a man of character and had a level of dedication to his family, his service, and his country that we should all strive for. We are proud to display his name in our great City.
Melendez was previously honored at a Spring Hill BOMA meeting in 2016. In the picture below, he can be seen receiving a Key to the City from former Mayor Rick Graham.
