Spring Hill E-911 Dispatch received a call at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, April 27, concerning a reckless driver on Main Street last seen heading toward The Crossings shopping center in a silver Nissan SUV.
A SHPD Officer responded to The Crossings and located a vehicle matching the BOLO description in the Mattress Inn parking lot at 6:32 p.m. The officer made contact with the suspect and ran the vehicle license plate. At that time, the officer radioed to Dispatch that the male suspect, later identified as Brandon McMahan, 33, of Columbia, was becoming hostile and aggressive. The officer requested additional backup units, which arrived at 6:45 p.m. Between then and the officer’s previous radio transmission, a physical altercation ensued between the suspect and the officer.
During the struggle, one round was fired from the officer’s weapon. No one was hit. Based on the initial investigation of the scene, it appears the bullet struck the pavement and ricocheted, putting a hole in the front glass window of the GNC.
Brandon McMahan was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and resisting stop, halt, frisk. He was taken into custody to Maury County Jail.
The officer, who is in stable condition at Williamson Medical Center, sustained significant head injuries, a dislocated shoulder, lacerations to the nose and back of the head, and possibly a broken nose.
The incident is still under investigation.
